Endurance in Action: 2 months of Daily Podcasting
On the first of January this year, my husband and I were in Malaysian Borneo river cruising in search of Pygmy elephants ( tick) , proboscis monkeys ( tick) and orangutans ( unfortunately not this time!). And in a moment of quiet reflection in nature, I came up with a new crazy idea- to do a daily podcast. Inspired by Leanne Hughes, who podcasted daily in 2025, I decided it would be an endurance goal with a difference- very on brand for me! I’ve stuck to the goal so far- and here’s what I’ve learnt.
1. Progress over perfection
The first few episodes are crackly as they were recorded on my phone ( some, in the jungle). I’ve recorded episodes since on trail runs. Sometimes I use video- sometimes not. There’s no music. The podcast artwork, I created on Canva on my phone in 5 minutes. I could be a perfectionist and fix these things. But for what I’m doing right now- I don’t need to. The process is the goal.
2. The importance of reflection
Early on in ENDURES, I outlined a weekly reflection process I use (Not all the time, or perfectly!) . Here it is: to write for 7 minutes on one of these things.
- Calendar
- Clients
- Creation
- Chat
- Community
- Content
- Circumstances
Now, instead of just writing, I use this as one way to create content for the podcast. But the benefit is, it makes me remember and cement some of the many learnings I’ve had!
3. I’m living my own ENDURES framework
Just as I do in my running and my business, my most sustainable success comes from following my own framework. Here’s how it applies to the podcast.
Envision: building my speaking and coaching work. So, why not share daily snippets of what I teach?!
Navigate: there’s no perfection- it’s just about getting it done. Setting an alarm, having the podcast on my habit tracker, making sure my camera is charged, going to my frameworks for content- there’s so many steps I take to navigate towards this goal.
Drive: how to get through the hard!! Sometimes it’s hit nearly 9pm and I remember I still have an episode to do! It just gets done. Sometimes I know I’ve got an intense couple of days coming up, or I’ll be travelling. I plan to pre record ( spoiler alert- I can promise you I won’t be live- creating a podcast over Easter while I attempt to run/ hike from Sydney- Newcastle! But I’ll definitely do a reflection piece or 2 afterwards!) . Also- in podcasting daily- I’m working my speaking muscle more and more. And building muscles is essential for drive.
Use Recovery: I’m compassionate to myself about the pod! Sometimes I’m offering my reflections on a piece as I read it- from my phone. So what?! We care too much in life about what others think- this isn’t a paid keynote or a workshop for me, it’s an endurance goal!
Refocus and reset: see above!
Elevate: I do plan to elevate what I’m doing with the pod- through selecting better clips with captions, to leverage, to have more collaborators. All in good time!
Support: The small but loyal group of ENDURES followers have given me lovely feedback. And of course, I couldn’t jump back into the office after dinner some nights without the support of my husband! Consciously creating the right support systems around us is essential for our success.
